Child
brain development
This is the philosophy of child developmentalist
Glenn Doman and the staff of the world-famous Institutes for the Achievement of
Human Potential. For nearly fifty years their groundbreaking work in the field
of child brain development has proved this premise correct. The discoveries made
by the staff of The Institutes® have been
called a gentle revolution in early development, and a half century of Glenn Doman's
teaching methods have had a pro- found effect on millions of families worldwide.
These methods, and the developmental tools contained in this catalog to help you
use them, are simple, straightforward and clear. They are part of an overall program
that proves children can learn to read, understand math, in fact learn anything
and everything, as well as be physically superb, before the age of six. These
books and materials teach parents how to teach their children at home. Indeed,
home is the natural and happy place for parents and their children to learn together.
The parent is the world's greatest teacher
Too much, too early, not ready, not able, these are the words that block the child's path to learning. For all too long parents have been led to believe that teaching is most effective when it occurs at a special time and place and is administered by special people. Nothing could be further from the truth, unless of course we establish that from birth until six is that special time, the child's home is that special place, and the parents are those special people. There should be nothing mystifying about teaching, since the ability to learn comes from within every newborn child. No one is better equipped to be a loving and caring guide than a child's mother or father. All parents need is the knowledge and tools to help tiny children develop and they become the very best teachers their children will ever have.
The playroom can become a learning center
The value of the parent as the primary guide can not be overemphasized since the greatest potential for learning occurs long before the child would normally enter into a system of formalized learning. In fact, young children can assimilate information at a rate that staggers the imagination. The books, videos, audiotapes and audio CDs, CD-ROMs and other learning materials contained in this catalog are designed to give you the knowledge you need to stimulate and enhance your child's innate ability and desire to learn. They allow you to build a resource-rich learning environment to make your home a place where your child is as excited by Plato and Mozart as he is by Peter Pan and Mickey Mouse. Your home can be a place where real learning occursas the result of caring and shared play!
An Open Door to the World's Parents and Their Children.
The
groundbreaking work of The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential would
amount to little without the dedicated parents who have made its methods their
own. These parents and their children continue to be the driving force behind
The Institutes labors and research. The Institutes were established by Glenn Doman
in 1955, but his work in the field of child brain development began in 1940. Over
the last fifty years he has worked closely with more than twenty thousand families.
His creation of books and teaching materials for use in the home has influenced
millions of families throughout the world. Glenn Doman has lived, studied and
worked with children in more than one hundred nations. This extensive field work
has taken him from the very primitive to the most civilized societies. His services
to children have brought him global recognition, praise and admiration from many
international groups and organizations. Although he is the principal lecturer
for the many courses given by The Institutes for the parents of well children,
his primary work continues to be with severely brain-injured children. Glenn Doman,
along with his colleagues, is dedicated to finding better ways to make hurt kids
well. The goal of The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential is to
raise significantly the ability of all children in the intellectual, physical
and social realms. Therefore, The Institutes accept children regardless of their
present capabilities and helps them achieve their fullest potential. Since 1980,
Janet Doman has been the director of The Institutes. She spent much of her childhood
there and was helping her father with the treatment of brain-injured children
by the time she was nine years old. After completing undergraduate studies at
her father's alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania, Janet devoted herself
to teaching early reading programs to parents at The Institutes. Recently Janet
and her father have updated and revised Glenn's international best-selling booksHow
To Teach Your Baby to Read,
How
To Teach Your Baby Math
and How
To Multiply Your Baby's Intelligence®.
Today Janet spends most of her day helping parents to discover that vast potential
of their children and their own potential as teachers. The Institutes for the
Achievement of Human Potential is a non-profit, federally tax-exempt educational
organization. Except for The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential-Europe,
in Italy, a sister organization in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and Doman Kenkyusho
in Japan, there are no other branches or affiliates in the world. The world headquarters
of The Institutes is in the United States located in Wyndmoor, just outside of
Philadelphia. The Institutes are funded by tuitions paid by parents and by donations
from individuals, private grantors and foundations. The Institutes are not affiliated
with any other group or organization and accept no government funds. If you need
